Troubleshooting
Notification spam: tuning what you actually want
How to silence the noise without missing the things that matter.
Where to tune
Notification preferences live at
/settings/notifications/. Each notification type has
its own controls:
- Bell drawer on / off: whether the bell icon shows
the alert.
- Email frequency: never, immediate, daily digest,
weekly digest.
A working starter setup
For most athletes:
- New coach note: immediate.
- Test result updated: immediate — your zones move
with it.
- Your health markers flagged: daily.
- Training load warning: daily. It is raised at most
once a week, so it cannot pile up.
- New workout uploaded and Comment on a workout:
daily digest is enough.
For most coaches:
- Health markers flagged: immediate.
- Race recap submitted and Intake form submitted:
immediate. Both are rare and same-day actionable.
- Workout completed: daily digest. One line per
athlete per session — immediate turns this into a pager
for a squad.
- Training load warning and Intake due for
renewal: daily.
- Wellness check-in (routine): daily, or bell only.
Symptom: Too many emails
Usually one high-volume type set to immediate. On a squad
the usual culprit is Workout completed; move it to
daily digest and the rest of the noise generally goes with
it.
Otherwise walk each row and ask: do I need this in real
time, or does the digest capture it? Reserve immediate for
things that change what you do today.
Symptom: Critical things missed
The opposite: everything set to never after one
overwhelming week. Walk back through:
- Health markers (both sides): at least daily.
- Intake submitted (coaches): immediate.
- Test result updated (athletes): immediate.
You can leave low-priority types off without losing the
high-priority ones.
Symptom: A type you cannot find on the page
Each type is listed for the role that receives it, so a
coach will not see the athlete-facing rows and vice versa.
If you hold both roles, the setting is shared: it is one
person with one inbox.
Symptom: Email goes to spam
- Add Grepiac's sending domain to your address book.
- Mark previous Grepiac emails as "Not spam" in your
provider. After 2 or 3 marks, most providers learn.
- If a corporate filter is blocking, ask your IT to
whitelist the sending domain.
Symptom: Unsubscribe link in the email
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking
it lands on the preferences page pre-scoped to that
type so you can silence only the offending type without
disabling everything.
Symptom: In-app bell never clears
- Click the bell and read each item. The bell clears
on read.
- If a specific notification keeps reappearing: the
load and health warnings describe a STATE rather than an
event, so they are re-raised after a quiet period (a
week) if the state is still true. That is by design; a
to-do or a season milestone is raised once only.
What Grepiac does NOT do
- No push notifications to a phone app (no Grepiac mobile
app yet).
- No SMS notifications.
- No external webhook for notification events.
When to escalate
If you cannot get a notification to fire when you expect
it (e.g. concerning wellness has been on for days and you
still have not been notified):
- Check that the type is enabled at the right frequency.
- Check that the underlying event actually occurred (look
at the athlete's wellness logs to confirm the flag fired).
- Use the bug widget if the type is enabled but no email
arrived.
